Both riders have had a notable career in Superbike with Falappa having scored sixteen race victories in five years and Pirovano having taken five Italian SBK titles. Falappa was forced to retire from the sport following a heavy crash during a private test at Albacete. However, he remained involved though not as a rider.

Both are among the best Italian riders in World Superbike and have been praised for their contribution to the sport on Monday.
